The quake struck at 9:09am local time (2.39pm AEST) near Kazeroun, a town 810km south of the capital Tehran.
Four schools in the area were destroyed and six were damaged, while classes in nearby areas were cancelled, IRNA reported.
Minor earthquakes are frequent in Iran, which is located on seismic fault lines.
