Anan first action against racism and discriminations

Kofi Annan have appointed five experts to follow up,in collobaration the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the settlement of the plan adopted in 2001 at the World Summit against Racism in Durban, South Africa. among them the former Finnish President Martti Oiva Kalevi Ahtisaari today Co-Chairman of the East West Institute and Chairman of the International Crisis Group, and former Jordanian Crown Prince Hassan bin Talal, founding member and Vice-Chairman of the Foundation for Inter-religious and Intercultural Research and Dialogue in Geneva.

included are Edna Maria Santos Roland, President of the Board of Directors of the Fala Preta Organization of Black Women in Brazil, Salim Ahmed Salim of Tanzania, former President of the UN General Assembly and the Organization of African Unity.

The Paragraph 191(b) of the Durban Declaration calls for the appointment of the experts. The group will discuss with the High Commissioner for Human Rights how best to fulfil their mission.
