The European Commission has urged Ukraine not to announce the result before reviewing the contentious vote.
Thousands of supporters of opposition leader Viktor Yushchenko have gathered in central Kiev for a third day.
Mr Yushchenko has accused the election commission of rigging Sunday’s vote in favour of Mr Yanukovich.
The Ukraine election commission planned to announce the final results after 1400 GMT.
Riot police are positioned outside the commission building as thousands of demonstrators, from both sides, gather at the site.
